SocioTechnical Integration Research (STIR) Cities is a National Science Foundation-funded project that explores decision-making in urban utilities. The project is a partnership between the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and Portland State University.
STIR cities examines social and technological complexity surrounding energy production and distribution. Researchers work directly with decision-makers at public utilities, planning offices, industrial operations, and national and academic research labs. The project builds individual and organizational capacity to consider the social, ethical, political, and legal implications of decision-making.
