Allegheny County Lease Mapping Project

Pennsylvania has a long history of resource extraction -- a history that intersects with issues of regulation, growth, pollution, land use, public health, and more. While resource extraction has brought economic gain for many, it has also brought environmental and social risk.

Acknowledging this complex history, the Allegheny County Lease Mapping Project uses technology to provide citizens a once missing data set that reveals land parcels leased and contracted to oil and gas companies. In doing so, the project democratizes information so that governments, communities, civic organizations, and individuals can make informed decisions about their individual and shared futures.
